An Open Letter

To: Sen. Fischer, Sen. Ricketts

From: A verified voter in Bellevue, NE

June 14

Please take out Section 203 from the budget bill. This part says that if someone sues the federal government, they have to pay a bond to cover the government’s costs if they lose the case. The First Amendment says people have the right to ask the government to fix problems — and that’s exactly what I’m doing by writing to you. But this rule makes it too hard for regular people to file a lawsuit. It’s like charging money just to use our First Amendment rights. That’s not fair.
