Oppose Trump's Economic and Immigration Policies Before Midterm Elections

To: Rep. Self, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Princeton, TX

January 19

I am writing to urge you to take a strong stand against the Trump administration's failed economic policies and extreme immigration enforcement before the upcoming midterm elections. Voters, particularly Latino constituents who represent over 36 million people and the largest non-white voting bloc in the country, are watching closely and will hold Congress accountable for inaction. Trump received 46% of the Latino vote in 2024, the highest percentage for any Republican in US history, primarily due to economic concerns under the Biden administration. However, recent CBS News polling shows Latino support has plummeted from 49% in early February 2025 to just 38% currently. This dramatic shift reflects widespread disappointment with Trump's broken promises on the economy and his extreme immigration policies. The numbers tell a clear story. Currently, 61% of Latinos disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy, and 69% disapprove of his handling of inflation. Despite Trump's claims that prices would come down, inflation remained at 2.7% in December for the second consecutive month, above the Federal Reserve target, driven by rising food and housing costs. Prices are not falling as promised but simply rising at a slower rate. As John Acevedo, a 74-year-old California realtor, stated: "prices are up" despite Trump's promises. On immigration, 70% of Latinos disapprove of Trump's approach, well above the national average of 58%. Over 600,000 people were deported between January 2024 and early December. While Latinos are split on deportation goals, 63% oppose how Trump is implementing them. In Oxnard, California, produce has been wasted because agricultural workers are too fearful to show up for work. Republican strategist Mike Madrid warns that Latinos "have the weakest partisan anchor of any group and can reject both parties when they fail them or just aren't honest with them." I urge you to break from this administration's failed policies and advocate for real economic relief and humane immigration reform. Voters will remember who stood up for them when midterms arrive.
