As a nation that has long championed liberty, it is imperative that Congress takes a firm stance in defending the fundamental right of journalism to hold those in power accountable. Failing to do so would undermine the foundations of our democracy and signal a concerning shift towards the very autocratic tendencies we have historically opposed. Congress must act decisively to condemn these attacks and reaffirm its commitment to protecting the freedom of the press, a cornerstone of our democratic society.
