Overwhelmed by a sense of dread and despair, I pen down these words as each disturbing image and piercing news report from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict unveils yet another thread of the suffering fabric that humanity has become. The innocent and helpless cries of civilians, children in the indiscriminate aftermath of violence, whose homes are being snatched away and lives turned into a recurring nightmare of bloodshed and fear. This isn't just a regional crisis anymore, but a crime against humanity that shakes the very foundations of our global moral compass.
I am an ordinary citizen. I cannot strategize peace negotiations, I cannot command armies to cease fire, but I can certainly appeal for cessation of the role we are playing in fuelling this crisis. The sheer scale of our country's fiscal contributions to Israel, and continuance in supplying arms and ammunition, adds fuel to this fire of violence and inhumanity that burns bright in the Middle East. This complicity in enabling the growing death toll and pain inflicted upon the Palestinian civilians must not be ignored. It instigates a feeling of helplessness and betrayal among citizens globally, questioning the viable model of democracy that we supposedly project.
As a cog of the influential machinery that our nation is, I feel a deep responsibility to voice my concern, for the sake of not just the Palestinian lives lost, but also in honor of the true American values of peace, justice, and freedom. I implore you to reevaluate our nation's funding and it's direct implications on the ongoing violence and gross infringements of human rights. I beseech each one of us to reflect upon our roles and choices, to lean on the side of justice, and to take immediate, tangible steps to halt the violence that stains our world today. A ceasefire, a reform in our funding policies, a stern attitude towards these crimes are not just essential, they are urgently needed to restore the faith in humanity and right the wrongs we've enabled.
