Stop Trump's destructive tariffs

To: Sen. Merkley, Rep. Dexter, Sen. Wyden

From: A verified voter in Portland, OR

April 8

Congress has the constitutional authority to regulate trade through tariffs and should exercise oversight over the president's use of this power. Maintaining a proper system of checks and balances is crucial for a healthy democracy. The president's ongoing trade war and unilateral imposition of tariffs have disrupted supply chains, raised costs for American consumers and businesses, and strained relationships with key allies and trading partners. This approach lacks a coherent strategy and undermines America's global economic leadership. Congress should pass legislation to rein in the president's ability to impose tariffs without proper justification and limit the economic fallout from escalating trade conflicts. Protecting American economic interests requires restoring Congress's Constitutional trade authorities.
