To: Rep. Cleaver, Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

From: A constituent in Independence, MO

June 30

The proposed "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" would be devastating for many Missourians, especially those living in rural areas who rely on Medicaid for their healthcare coverage. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that nearly 130,000 to 160,000 Missourians could lose their health insurance annually under this legislation. Rural hospitals, which are often the largest or second-largest employers in their communities, would face significant financial strain as the bill reduces federal Medicaid funding by an estimated $1.5 trillion over the next decade. Some rural hospitals could be forced to close, leading to job losses and economic ripple effects. I urge you to consider the harmful impacts this bill would have on Missourians' access to healthcare, especially in underserved rural areas, and vote against it to protect the wellbeing of our state's residents and rural economies.
