Save student loan forgiveness

To: Rep. Huffman, Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in Forest Knolls, CA

May 19

On Wednesday the Senate votes to change the eligibility rules for student loan forgiveness through public service. As a recipient of that forgiveness in the 1970’s, I know what a difference it made in my life. The Secretary of Education’s orders’ targets are nonprofits that support immigrants, LGBTQ+ youth, racial and social equity, reproductive health care, and survivors of gender-based violence, and would not only change the trajectory of future students, but wreck the lives of current recipients and the schools and nonprofits where they work. Speak loudly against this misguided effort!
