Hi. I wrote you, my Senators, an angry letter yesterday, regarding the recent vote on the continuing resolution. Heather Cox Richardson, a better communicator than anyone in the Democratic Party, IMO, did a great explainer, and now, I am both less and more angry. What You Did Right: - Realize that Trump is a monster, and will gleefully harm the American people. As one of the millions of No Kings Day protesters, let me say, welcome to the party. - Reopen the government, and stopping the bleeding caused by Gatsby's gleeful attacks. - The deal for the future vote on the ACA tax break extensions. Nobody wants the ACA. What we want is Universal Healthcare, like in civilized countries, but given where we are, we need those tax breaks. The American people are understandable skeptical of Republican promises to bring a vote, but it puts the ball back in their court, and they control all the branches, and their constituients also want healthcare. So, we'll see. - Force Mike Johnson to reopen the house and seat Adelita Grijalva, forcing another confrontation over the Epstein files. - Protect government workers jobs and back-pay. What You Did Wrong: - Failed to communicate any of the above to democratic voters, effectively kneecapping the momentum coming out of last Tuesday's election. For this, I still think Schumer is a bungler who should be replaced. This was a terrible self-inflicted wound. - Act like all of the above was a shameful crime that had to be hidden behind scapegoat votes. More and more of us every day are remembering that it is our civic duty to be informed, to be proactive. We are out marching in the streets because we think Trump is causing grave damage to the country, the economy, and foremost, the citizens. We want change. We want you to want change, and we want you to stand up like millions of us have done and loudly proclaim your opposition, the entire democratic caucus in the senate should have stood up, in front of cameras and explained everything that I had to get second hand, two days later from Heather Cox Richardson. Get your most charismatic communicators, your firebrands, and yes, your progressive in front of cameras, hammer these messages home. Step up to the moment. You know what we want: - Donald Trump away from the levers of power, preferably in a jail cell - Universal Healthcare - Living Wages - Guarantee of Food as a Human Right - Women's Bodily Autonomy - We want to be a country that makes something other than just financial bubbles and world class grifters. Step up.
