Oppose Any Reduction of U.S. Forces in Germany

To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno, Rep. Joyce

From: A constituent in Willoughby, OH

April 30

I need you to oppose any reduction of U.S. military forces in Germany. This move undermines our national security and plays directly into Putin's hands. More than 36,000 active duty troops are stationed in Germany, which hosts the headquarters of U.S. European Command and Africa Command. Ramstein Air Base serves as a critical hub for our military operations. Withdrawing these forces would cripple our ability to project power and respond to threats across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The timing is deeply troubling. Trump announced this review immediately after tensions with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over Iran policy. Using troop deployments as leverage in petty diplomatic disputes is reckless. Our military posture should be based on strategic necessity, not the president's personal grievances. Germany is a vital ally. Punishing them for disagreeing with us on Iran while simultaneously threatening to abandon NATO sends a clear message to adversaries that our alliances are transactional and unstable. Russia has sought to divide NATO for decades. This proposal does Putin's work for him. Congress blocked a similar withdrawal plan in 2020 with bipartisan opposition. I expect you to do the same now. Our troops in Germany protect American interests, not just European ones.
