Investigate the Pay-to-Play Killing of AI Safety Rules

To: Rep. Chu, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A verified voter in Pasadena, CA

September 26

Investigate the quid pro quo between Trump's administration and AI executives who donated millions to kill federal AI safety regulations. The pattern is too clear to ignore: money flowed in, and a critical public protection disappeared. The Biden administration's AI reporting rule was designed to prevent dangerous accidents that could injure or kill people. Then Sam Altman's company donated $5 million to MAGA Inc., and nine days later Trump signed an executive order scrapping it. More donations followed — Marc Andreessen, Ben Horowitz, and Elon Musk each contributed millions — and by December the rule was formally buried. These same executives are now demanding congressional action after high-profile AI hacking incidents. They paid to gut oversight, and the public is now paying the price. This is textbook pay-to-play corruption. I want to know what you are doing to investigate it, and whether you will support legislation to restore mandatory AI safety reporting requirements. Your constituents deserve an answer.
