Our roads are clogged, our air is polluted, and too many New Yorkers—especially the poor, disabled, and rural—lack affordable ways to get to work, school, or medical care. Car dependency hurts our health, our climate, and our communities.
We call on you to build a transportation system that works for everyone, not just drivers. That means prioritizing people over cars, with equity and ecological health at the center.
We demand you take these actions:
1. Build transit‑oriented communities – Pass A05137 to mandate affordable housing near transit hubs, and fund the “RUSH” program to create walkable, mixed‑income neighborhoods.
2. Fully fund non‑car infrastructure – Sustain the $68.4 billion MTA Capital Plan and keep congestion pricing as a stable revenue source for subways, buses, and accessibility upgrades.
3. Make streets safe for walking and biking – Pass A01875 (“Complete Streets”) to require bike lanes, sidewalks, and crosswalks on all state‑funded projects, and update state bike/pedestrian plans with S01832.
4. Cut pollution and expand clean transit – Pass the Clean Fuel Standard Act to reduce emissions 20% by 2033, directing 40% of benefits to disadvantaged communities.
5. Serve rural and disabled New Yorkers – Increase capital aid for upstate and rural transit systems, and ensure all new projects meet ADA standards.
We refuse to accept car dependency as inevitable. We choose clean air, safe streets, and freedom to move.
