The Trump Administration’s extrajudicial killings of boaters in international waters has relied on shaky rationale that those aboard are “narcoTerroists” that the administration declines to produce evidence against or to prosecute in any court of law.
Recent DEA assessments show that this administration’s policy of using the US military to target and bomb boats believed to be carrying drugs has not reduced the amount or purity of cocaine entering the United States. In other words, this policy of ignoring our own laws and international laws has not reduced the drug trafficking this administration claims as justification for flouting the law.
Congress must
•1 exercise oversight of Pentagon funding through audits
•2 freeze funding for illegal military strikes against vessels believed to be involved in merely criminal rather than actually military combat activities
•3 return drug enforcement responsibilities to the DEA and law enforcement
Being suspected of a crime is not a capital offense in a lawful society; the United States must stop killing boaters who have not been tried and convicted. Thank you for taking action to prevent further strikes on civilian vessels in international waters.
