I’m writing to ask you to support AB 1921, the Protect Our Games Act. As someone who regularly plays both single-player and online multiplayer games, the practice of requiring “online access” for even games that you play by yourself at home, is anticompetitive and leads to a really bad customer experience. A studio can get its customers like me to pay $50 or $70 or $100 for a new game, then immediately shut off access because ‘sales weren’t good enough’. This is an unacceptable practice. The protect our games act will ensure that online “lockout” systems become illegal without a refund or an alternate way to play the games that I’ve purchased. I urge you to support this important consumer protection bill.
