Oppose H.R. 1 the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”

To: Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Lititz, PA

June 26

I strongly oppose H.R. 1, the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act." This partisan budget reconciliation bill would increase deficits by a staggering $2.4 trillion to finance tax cuts for the wealthy, representing a massive wealth transfer from the poor to the rich. The bill includes devastating cuts to vital programs like Medicaid, imposing harsh work requirements and restricting eligibility. It would increase costs for those enrolled in both Medicaid and Medicare. The bill provides unprecedented funding increases for ICE and Trump's cruel mass deportation efforts, while slashing funding for SNAP food assistance. It authorizes the sale of public lands to private buyers and fossil fuel companies, while rolling back clean energy incentives and climate protections. The bill unconstitutionally limits courts' ability to issue certain orders and defunds the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. It cuts funding for Planned Parenthood's clinical services and restricts gender-affirming care coverage through Medicaid and CHIP. The bill imposes a 10-year ban on state AI regulation as a condition for broadband funding. Instead of this destructive legislation that harms working families to benefit the wealthy, Congress should pass a fair, responsible budget that helps communities.
