This petition demands that Congress prohibit any draft or conscription for foreign conflicts declared by the executive branch to be "short-term" or "limited" engagements. It asserts that an all-volunteer force is sufficient and that involuntary service is unjustified for wars not formally declared by Congress, ensuring American lives are not risked on temporary political agendas.
Petition Title: Stop the Draft for Short-Term Wars
To the U.S. Congress:
I am writing as your constituent to demand that you take immediate legislative action to prevent the implementation of a military draft for any conflict.
If the administration claims a conflict will be won in a "short amount of time," there is absolutely no justification for involuntarily forcing American citizens into military service. The United States maintains a robust, highly trained, all-volunteer force, along with substantial Reserve and National Guard personnel.
• No Draft for Undeclared Wars: I urge you to pass legislation explicitly prohibiting the use of a draft unless Congress has formally declared war under Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution.
• Prevent Abuse of Power: We cannot allow the executive branch to engage in "short-term" foreign interventions while using draft registration to threaten American youth, particularly with the new automated registration provisions.
• Protect Voluntary Service: The American people have made it clear they are weary of foreign entanglements. Forced conscription for limited, rapid conflicts is an unacceptable overreach.
The power to raise an army belongs to Congress, not the President. You must stand against any measures that would allow a "short" war to disrupt the lives of millions of young Americans. Do your job, uphold the Constitution, and protect the people from unauthorized warmongering.
I expect you to publicly oppose any move toward conscription and to vote against any funding for a draft.
