Protect Kansans—Block ICE from Accessing Medicaid Data
To: Gov. Kelly
From: A constituent in Columbus, KS
July 24
Governor Kelly,
I’m writing as a deeply concerned rural Kansan. ICE must not be allowed access to Medicaid data, and I’m calling on you to take an immediate, public stand.
Kansans—especially in rural areas like mine—are already fighting to access care. Giving ICE access to health records would drive people away from clinics and hospitals out of fear, especially among our Asian and Hispanic immigrant families, who are integral to our communities.
I urge you to:
• Publicly oppose ICE access to Medicaid data
• Direct KDHE to refuse cooperation unless legally required
• Enact clear protections and privacy policies now to prevent harm
• Join a multi-state coalition defending medical privacy from ICE surveillance
You have both the authority and the responsibility to defend the dignity, safety, and privacy of Kansans. If the federal government is going to come for our families through healthcare data, then Kansas must be a firewall, not a funnel.
Do not stay silent. We are watching.
