Restore U.S. Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use team at CDC

To: Sen. Baldwin, Rep. Fitzgerald, Sen. Johnson

From: A constituent in Waukesha, WI

May 29

I am a mother of two school-age children, a teacher, and a proud member of my community in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I continue to be concerned about abrupt cancellations of programs that were working to help people, without forethought. A recent cut that makes absolutely no sense is to the small group of people in the CDC who were responsible for creating and updating the U.S. Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use. These basic guidelines about contraceptive choices and interactions with various other medical conditions were used by thousands of doctors all across the U.S. to give the best possible medical advice to women. This information changes with new research and information, and this small but mighty team helped to ensure women's health and safety. This impacts breastfeeding mothers, those with conditions like Sickle Cell, and more. This team was important, small, and did not cost us much money at all. There is no reason to cut it, other than thoughtlessness or a disregard for women's basic health and wellness. Please speak out today to restore this team immediately, so that they can continue providing evidence-based recommendations for doctors. Thank you.
