The Great American State Fair on the National Mall must remain what it was promised to be: a nonpartisan celebration of America's 250th birthday, open to all Americans. Converting it into a MAGA rally — as President Trump publicly suggested after artists withdrew — would be a betrayal of that promise and a misuse of public resources to serve one political party.
Martina McBride didn't pull out on a whim. She said she was told this was a nonpartisan event, and that "things started changing" from what they were told. That's not a scheduling conflict — that's a bait and switch. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has already raised serious questions about the transparency of private donations funding these celebrations. The public deserves to know who is paying for what, and why a national birthday party is being shaped around one politician's brand.
America's 250th anniversary belongs to every American. Please push for full transparency on Freedom 250's funding, and make clear that no taxpayer-backed event on the National Mall should serve as a campaign platform for any party or president.
