According to recent reports, including a whistleblower complaint, this system was developed in a rushed manner in under three months and contains significant design flaws.The whistleblower alleges that the system could reject an entire bulk mailing of thousands of ballots if even a single barcode fails verification. This would send the ballots back to the state rather than delivering them to voters. Such a process expands USPS far beyond its traditional role of transporting ballots and risks major disruptions to mail-in voting in the upcoming midterm elections.A federal judge has already limited parts of the order, yet development has continued. The combination of an untested technical system, compressed timelines, and the potential for widespread ballot rejections raises legitimate questions about reliability and readiness.I urge you to investigate this matter promptly. Please seek detailed information from the Postmaster General and USPS leadership about the system’s testing, safeguards, error rates, and contingency plans. I also ask what steps you and your colleagues plan to take—whether through oversight hearings, legislative action, or direct engagement with the administration—to prevent unnecessary barriers to legitimate mail ballots and protect the integrity of the electoral process.Thank you for your attention to this issue.
