Condemn President Trump's Dangerous Rhetoric and Protect Our Lawmakers

To: Rep. Joyce, Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno

From: A constituent in Willoughby, OH

November 22

I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent social media posts by President Trump that have led to death threats against several members of Congress. These lawmakers, who have honorably served our country in military and intelligence roles, are now facing danger for simply advising service members to defy illegal orders. This is not just a matter of political disagreement; it's a threat to the very foundations of our democracy. The video released by these brave Senators and Representatives is a far cry from sedition or treason. It is, in fact, a reminder of the oath that all service members take to uphold the Constitution and follow only lawful orders. Senator Lindsey Graham's acknowledgment that these lawmakers were encouraging military personnel to disobey unlawful orders inadvertently confirms the legitimacy of their message and admits that Trump is issuing unlawful orders. What is truly alarming is President Trump's call for these lawmakers to be executed. Such rhetoric is dangerous and undermines the principles of democratic discourse and the rule of law. It's worth noting that at least three lawmakers have already contacted Capitol Police about these threats, highlighting the real and immediate danger posed by such inflammatory statements. As my representative, I urge you to take a strong, public stance condemning these threats and the rhetoric that incites them. Our elected officials should be able to perform their duties without fear of violence. Moreover, I ask that you support measures to protect lawmakers from such threats and to hold accountable those who incite violence against public servants. The increasing polarization in our political landscape is concerning, but it should never escalate to threats of violence. We must reaffirm our commitment to resolving our differences through peaceful, democratic means. Your leadership in this matter is crucial in setting the tone for respectful political discourse and ensuring the safety of those who serve our nation. I call on you and all Republicans to unequivocally condemn President Trump's blatant calls for violence against his political opponents. The refusal to do so is deeply troubling and goes against the principles of our democracy. Everyone, regardless of party affiliation, needs to stand united against such dangerous rhetoric. I look forward to hearing about the steps you plan to take to address this urgent issue. Our democracy depends on leaders like you standing up for the principles that make our nation great.
