Recognize and Act Against Transgender Genocide

To: Rep. Andrews, Gov. Whitmer, Sen. Nesbitt

From: A constituent in Stevensville, MI

March 19

I need you to publicly recognize that transgender people are facing genocide and take immediate action to stop it. The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide defines genocide as acts committed with intent to destroy a group, in whole or in part. This includes killing members of the group, causing serious bodily or mental harm, deliberately inflicting conditions calculated to bring about physical destruction, imposing measures to prevent births, and forcibly transferring children. Transgender people are experiencing all of these. We face violence and murder at alarming rates. We are denied healthcare that prevents serious harm. Laws are being passed to erase us from public life. Our children are being taken from supportive families. This is not hyperbole. The United States Holocaust Museum's own definition makes clear that genocide is not limited to mass slaughter. Cultural erasure and systematic harm qualify. Transgender people are being eliminated simply for existing as ourselves. You have the power to stop this. Oppose every bill that restricts our healthcare, our participation in society, and our right to raise our children. Co-sponsor legislation that protects us. Call this what it is: genocide.
