Every “debate” about SNAP cuts, work requirements, or so-called waste is theater staged to keep poor and working-class people desperate. Cutting food assistance has always been a moral test disguised as economics. They frame it as “personal responsibility,” but it’s really about enforcing hierarchy by punishing the poor for existing, especially Black, brown, and single-mother households cast as “undeserving.” The same lawmakers who shovel billions to corporations clutch their pearls over a $6.20 daily benefit that keeps a child from going to bed hungry.” We should be hearing this from every Democrat in office.
