Thank you for voting against the Laken Riley Act. This Act has made things even worse for our immigrant neighbors. After passage of the Act vastly more people have been put in detention. The conditions in detention are reported to be extremely harsh and inhumane. People are dying in these detention centers. These detainees have not been convicted of crimes. Even criminals are entitled to humane treatment. At the very least it is our responsibility to feed, clothe, shelter and provide medical care to those who we detain. They should also have access to legal counsel and contact with their families. Please investigate these detention centers and make sure that people are being treated properly.
