I am writing to express my strong opposition to the transfer of $10 billion in taxpayer funds to President Trump's newly created Board of Peace. This expenditure appears to lack congressional authorization, and I urge you to investigate this transfer and take immediate action to block any unauthorized spending.
Congress holds the constitutional power of the purse, yet there is no indication that this $10 billion expenditure was approved through the proper legislative process. Trump has not specified where these funds will come from, and the American people deserve transparency about how their tax dollars are being spent. This represents a fundamental breach of constitutional checks and balances.
The Board of Peace itself raises serious concerns. Member nations include countries with documented human rights violations and corruption issues, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Hungary. Russia was invited despite actively waging war against Ukraine. Meanwhile, longstanding American allies including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Ukraine have declined to participate. This coalition does not represent American values or strategic interests.
Trump serves as chairman in perpetuity with no term limits or restrictions, giving him access to organizational finances beyond U.S. government oversight. His son-in-law Jared Kushner, who holds no official government position, has presented plans to transform Gaza into a coastal tourism destination, raising obvious conflict of interest concerns. Member states pay a $1 billion fee, but the specific use of these funds remains unclear.
Trump justified the $10 billion by comparing it to war costs, calling it "two weeks of fighting" and "a very small number." But this is taxpayer money that could fund healthcare, education, infrastructure, or deficit reduction rather than an unaccountable international organization under one person's control.
I urge you to demand full transparency regarding this transfer, block any unauthorized spending, and ensure that no taxpayer funds are directed to this organization without proper congressional authorization and oversight.
