Your Silence Is Exactly Why Republicans Are Headed for a Midterm Disaster
To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

Republicans calling off the vote on the Iran war powers resolution when it was on the verge of passing is cowardly, and your silence about it is exactly why voters are losing faith in the GOP.
If members of Congress are willing to risk dragging the country toward another military conflict, then they should have the courage to publicly debate it and go on record with a vote. Instead, Republican leadership chose to shut it down before accountability could happen.
That is not leadership. It is political self preservation.
The American people are exhausted by politicians who hide behind party strategy instead of standing up for transparency, constitutional responsibility, and the people they were elected to serve.
Congress has a duty to assert its authority on matters of war, yet too many Republicans stay silent out of fear of upsetting party leadership or Donald Trump.
Your refusal to publicly speak out about this is exactly why the GOP is headed toward a brutal midterm defeat. Independent voters, moderates, veterans, and even longtime Republicans are tired of watching elected officials avoid accountability while acting more loyal to party politics than to their constituents or the Constitution.
People are paying attention. History is paying attention. And voters will remember who stayed silent when it mattered.
Where do you stand, and why have you refused to speak out about this decision?
I expect a direct response.
