I am writing to express my deep concern and outrage over the continued use of excessive force by law enforcement and federal agencies against peaceful protesters across the country. Communities are being terrorized by militarized police units and masked federal agents deploying tear gas, rubber bullets, and mass arrests against individuals exercising their First Amendment rights.
This is not about maintaining public safety — it is about instilling fear and silencing dissent. The use of these tactics, particularly under the Trump administration, reveals a deeply troubling trend of weaponizing state institutions such as ICE, federal law enforcement, and even the military to target immigrants, asylum-seekers, and anyone who dares to speak out for justice and human rights.
Peaceful protest is a cornerstone of democracy and must be protected, not criminalized. The normalization of military force to suppress public voices is a direct threat to civil liberties and the health of our republic.
I urge you to take immediate action to halt this dangerous escalation. Congress must investigate and place strict limits on the use of federal force against civilians. We must ensure that agencies like ICE and federal law enforcement are not being used as tools of political repression.
This is not the country we aspire to be. Please act now to defend the rights of the people you represent and to uphold the Constitution
