An Open Letter

I am writing as a constituent to urge you to oppose the SAVE Act. While I strongly support secure and fair elections, the SAVE Act would create significant barriers to voting for many eligible Americans without meaningfully improving election security. Requiring specific documentary proof of citizenship would disproportionately impact seniors, students, low-income voters, rural residents, married women who have changed their names, and members of the military — many of whom do not have immediate access to the required documents. There is no evidence of widespread noncitizen voting in federal elections. Existing laws already make it illegal and extremely rare. The SAVE Act risks solving a problem that does not exist while disenfranchising eligible voters who have a constitutional right to participate in our democracy. Additionally, this legislation would impose costly and complex administrative burdens on state and local election officials, potentially leading to longer registration delays, confusion, and inconsistent enforcement across states. Protecting election integrity should not come at the expense of eligible voters’ access to the ballot. I urge you to reject the SAVE Act and instead support policies that both safeguard elections and expand access to voting. Thank you for your time and for representing our community. I look forward to seeing your continued commitment to protecting the rights of eligible voters.
