I am writing to ask you to uphold Congress’s constitutional responsibility regarding war powers.
As the 60-day deadline under the War Powers Resolution approaches, I urge Congress to do what the Constitution requires: debate this matter openly and vote on whether continued military hostilities with Iran should be authorized.
My concern is not partisan. It is constitutional. Decisions about war are too serious to continue by inertia or executive action alone. If military action should continue, Congress should debate it and vote yes. If it should not continue, Congress should vote no and bring unauthorized hostilities to an end.
Silence should not substitute for authorization.
Please support enforcement of the War Powers Resolution, insist on public debate, and reclaim Congress’s role in decisions of war and peace.
Thank you for your service and for considering my views.
