An Open Letter

To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. Liccardo, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in Pacifica, CA

July 16

Today’s Washington Post–Reuters report confirmed what many have feared: the Trump administration is actively seeking detailed voter data from states and even access to voting machines — all deeply concerning efforts that could be used to intimidate, manipulate, or disenfranchise voters. America’s democratic strength lies in its decentralized and transparent election system, administered by state and local officials. Allowing the federal government — especially a presidential administration with a track record of challenging legitimate election outcomes — to oversee or tamper with these systems would severely threaten the integrity of our vote. This isn’t a partisan issue. Whether you’re Republican, Democrat, or Independent, we all rely on the knowledge that our ballot counts and personal information are handled securely and fairly. We urge Congress to: 1. Enact legislation that firmly blocks any federal intrusion into state voter databases or voting equipment. 2. Ensure transparency and accountability by requiring that any data-sharing requests from the federal government be made public, fully documented, and subject to immediate judicial review. 3. Support state and local election officials, ensuring they have the resources and authority to defend their voters and systems against undue interference. To preserve trust in our democracy, we cannot hand over control of our elections — and our rights — to those seeking to preserve power at any cost. Thank you for taking immediate action to protect the voice of the American people.
