The Constitution is the bedrock of American democracy and the rule of law. It outlines the fundamental rights and freedoms that must be upheld for all people. As president, one has a solemn duty to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution - this is not a matter of personal choice or interpretation. Refusing to commit to upholding the Constitution undermines the entire system of checks and balances and raises deeply troubling questions about respecting the will of the people and the democratic process. I urge a clear and unequivocal affirmation that you will faithfully execute the duties of the presidency and uphold the Constitution as required by your sworn oath of office. The American people deserve no less.
