Deliver Dignity: Pass the Michigan Momnibus I am a voting constituent writing to urge you to pass the historic "Momnibus" bill package (Senate Bills 29–34 and 36–39). Recently passed by the Senate, this vital legislation tackles the systemic racial and ethnic disparities that have disproportionately harmed Black and Brown families in our state for far too long. Every family deserves an equitable opportunity to experience a safe, empowering, and healthy birth. The Momnibus package establishes essential accountability measures, including a reporting tool for patients to self-report experiences of obstetric racism and protected rights for labor companions like doulas. Furthermore, it expands vital healthcare access by requiring insurance reimbursement for licensed midwives and expanding Medicaid coverage for both perinatal services and remote fetal testing. This community-driven legislation, crafted by women of color, ensures that a mother’s race or economic status no longer dictates her survival during childbirth. We owe it to Michigan's mothers and babies to fix a failing system. Please prioritize maternal justice and help push the Momnibus package across the finish line.
