The Rule of Law Applies to Presidents Too - Impeach Trump

To: Rep. Carter, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

July 8

As your constituent, I am demanding that you fulfill your constitutional duty and begin impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump based on conduct that our courts and upheld by the Supreme Court, have found occurred and that is fundamentally incompatible with the office of the President. A federal jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming E. Jean Carroll. Rather than accepting responsibility, he continued to attack and defame her, resulting in additional legal consequences. These are not rumors or political talking points. They are findings reached through our judicial system and repeatedly upheld by the courts. No President should be above the law. No President who has been found liable for sexual abuse and for repeatedly defaming his victim should escape accountability simply because holding him accountable is politically difficult. I expect you to publicly condemn this conduct, defend the rule of law, and support impeachment proceedings. Congress was given the power to act when a President’s behavior demonstrates a profound disregard for the Constitution, the dignity of the office, and the principles of justice. If we allow political loyalty to outweigh accountability, we weaken our democracy and send a dangerous message that power excuses misconduct. It does not. History will remember whether you defended the Constitution or remained silent. I urge you to choose courage, uphold your oath of office, and act now.
