On November 1st, over 81,000 Utahns will be impacted by the withholding of funding from the SNAP program. This is a political game of chicken that the GOP is playing with vulnerable people. Elderly people. Veterens. Disabled people. Working poor people. Children. Here's the real kicker... There is money that has been specifically allocated to ensure that government shutdown situations would not impact SNAP funds. That money is already there. It has been funded. It is waiting to be used. The USDA secretary has the ability to ensure that people can still eat. However, that contingency funding is being withheld at the authorization of the Trump administration. Trump is literally willing to starve children to get his way. Food is a human right and it should not be used as a bargaining chip by anyone. We know the money is there. Stop playing with peoples lives. Human lives are not bargaining chips.
