An Open Letter
To: Pres. Trump
From: A verified voter in Killeen, TX
July 14
I am writing because reports indicate that you intend to give a speech attacking Senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff by questioning the legitimacy of their elections.
You need to stop.
You have every right to criticize their policies. You have every right to disagree with their votes, their priorities, and their decisions as senators. That is part of our democracy.
But attacking the legitimacy of certified elections without credible evidence is not leadership. It is an attack on the very democratic system that gives Americans the right to choose their representatives.
Senators Warnock and Ossoff were elected by the people of Georgia through the constitutional process established by that state. Their elections were certified. They serve because Georgia voters chose them. Disagree with them. Debate them. Challenge them. But do not attempt to erase the votes of millions of Americans because you do not like the outcome.
Our Constitution depends on a peaceful transfer of power and respect for the results of lawful elections. A president’s responsibility is not only to exercise power, but to respect the institutions that make our government possible.
Continuing to undermine confidence in elections damages our country. It disrespects the Constitution, the states that administer their own elections, and the millions of Americans whose votes determine who represents them.
I want a president who strengthens faith in our democratic institutions, not one who weakens them for political gain.
Please stop attacking legitimate elections and start respecting the constitutional process that has sustained this country for generations.
