The Department of Defense's decision to ignore cyber threats from Russia is a reckless and misguided policy shift that compromises our national security and poses a clear and present danger to all Americans. Russia has consistently proven itself as a capable and persistent cyber adversary, launching numerous cyberattacks and hacking operations against U.S. systems and infrastructure over the past decade. By ordering U.S. Cyber Command to stand down from all planning and offensive actions against Russia, we are leaving ourselves vulnerable to ongoing Russian malicious cyber activities. This policy reversal willfully turns a blind eye to a major threat actor, emboldening Russia to continue and escalate its attacks without fear of consequence. Such naivete and dereliction of duty put American assets, critical systems, and interests at grave risk. This order must be immediately rescinded, and a comprehensive cyber defense strategy reestablished to counter and deter Russian cyber operations. Our nation's cybersecurity cannot afford to have our guard down against any threat, let alone one as potent as Russia.
