I am writing to you today as one of your constituents to express my deep concern and strong opposition regarding the federal government's move to reinstitute firing squads as an authorized method of execution.
As a matter of conscience and a commitment to human rights, I believe that the death penalty is an outdated and fundamentally flawed practice. The introduction of firing squads, in particular, represents a step backward for our nation’s commitment to avoiding "cruel and unusual punishment." Such methods are inconsistent with the values of a modern, compassionate society.
The revival of these practices does not enhance public safety or provide true justice; instead, it risks further desensitizing our legal system to the sanctity of human life. I respectfully urge you to:
• Oppose any administrative or legislative efforts to expand or diversify methods of federal execution.
• Support legislation that moves toward a federal moratorium or the total abolition of capital punishment.
I believe our justice system should reflect our highest ethical standards, focusing on rehabilitation and fair sentencing rather than the reinstitution of archaic execution methods.
Thank you for your time and for considering my views on this critical issue. I look forward to hearing about your position and any actions you intend to take.
