Demand for Resignations of Pete Hegseth and Mike Waltz

To: Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden, Rep. Bentz

From: A verified voter in Myrtle Creek, OR

March 25

The recent revelation that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz recklessly discussed sensitive military operations over unsecured communications is an unforgivable breach of duty. Their negligence has endangered national security, violated multiple federal records laws, and shattered any remaining trust in this administration’s ability to govern responsibly. This is not just incompetence—it is a direct violation of the Presidential Records Act (PRA), the Federal Records Act (FRA), and national security protocols designed to protect our country from internal corruption and external threats. The use of unsecured, private messaging apps to discuss military plans, leading to their accidental disclosure to a journalist, is a level of recklessness that demands immediate accountability. These officials knowingly circumvented the law and put American lives at risk in the process. Given the gravity of this breach, I demand that you take immediate action by: 1. Calling for the immediate resignations of Secretary Pete Hegseth and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. Their continued presence in office is a national security liability. 2. Launching a full congressional investigation into the use of unauthorized communication channels within the executive branch, ensuring that those responsible are held fully accountable. 3. Holding public hearings to expose the extent of this lawlessness to the American people. 4. Enacting legislative measures to prevent such reckless disregard for national security from happening again. Enough is enough. We cannot allow officials who blatantly ignore the law and endanger national security to remain in power. If Congress fails to act, it will be complicit in this dangerous erosion of accountability. I, along with countless others, will be watching your response closely and will not accept inaction. The American people demand justice. We demand accountability. And we demand it now.
