Block this reckless DHS policy that eliminates the adjustment of status process — a pathway that has existed for over 60 years. More than one million people currently waiting on green cards will now be forced to abandon their jobs, homes, and families and return to countries they may have left decades ago, for an indefinite period, just to keep a process moving that was already underway.
The cruelty here is not incidental — it is the point. HIAS has documented that this policy forces trafficking survivors and abused children to return to the very dangerous countries they fled. Mixed-status families will be torn apart. And this lands on top of an agency already drowning in backlogs, with no clarity on what happens to the million-plus pending cases already in the system.
This country was built by immigrants. Every non-Indigenous person here traces their lineage to someone who came from somewhere else. Treating today's immigrants as uniquely suspect — while dismantling the legal pathways they followed in good faith — is not border security. It is bad faith governance. Push back on this policy now.
