The provision in H.R. 1, the "One Big Beautiful Bill" Act, seeking to limit the authority of federal judges to hold government officials in contempt of court is a dangerous erosion of judicial independence and the system of checks and balances. This provision would prevent courts from enforcing their own orders and injunctions against executive branch officials, allowing the administration to defy the law and Constitution with impunity. As a constituent, I urge you to vote against H.R. 1 and this anti-democratic provision that undermines the rule of law. The courts must maintain their power to hold the government accountable when it oversteps its authority or violates constitutional rights. Stripping the judiciary of its contempt powers is a direct attack on its ability to serve as an independent check on the other branches. Oppose this unacceptable breach of separation of powers and protect the integrity of our judicial system.
