Block any effort to rename the USS Doris Miller. Stripping the name of a genuine American war hero to replace it with a president's name is an insult to Doris Miller's sacrifice and to every sailor who has served this country.
Miller manned an anti-aircraft gun during the attack on Pearl Harbor with no formal training, was credited with shooting down at least one enemy plane, and dragged wounded sailors to safety under fire. He was the first Black service member to receive the Navy Cross. The decision to name this carrier after him was made during Trump's own first term. Now the same administration wants to erase that honor. This ship would have been the first aircraft carrier named after a Black person and an enlisted sailor — that distinction matters, and abandoning it sends a clear message about whose service this administration values.
The renaming decision rests with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao. Use your position to make clear that this reversal is unacceptable. Doris Miller's name belongs on that ship.
