The proposed bill to expand drone use by law enforcement raises serious privacy and civil liberties concerns. While drones can be a useful tool in emergency situations, allowing widespread warrantless surveillance undermines constitutional protections against unreasonable searches. This degree of unchecked drone monitoring would further erode privacy and disproportionately impact already overpoliced communities. There must be robust safeguards and public oversight before granting such expansive surveillance powers. I urge you to oppose SB 238 and instead work towards greater police accountability and community-based solutions that address root causes without resorting to a society under perpetual surveillance.
