I’m writing again to urge you to move from words to action on the recent federal immigration enforcement shootings in Minneapolis and elsewhere. In just the last few weeks, multiple U.S. citizens have been shot and, in some cases, killed by officers from ICE and Customs and Border Protection — incidents that have sparked nationwide concern and raised serious questions about how these agencies operate.  At this point, it’s clear that mere statements or expressions of concern are not enough. What we need from you — as my senator and as a member of Congress with oversight responsibility — is leadership that protects American citizens and holds federal law enforcement accountable. Specifically, I strongly urge you to: 1. Call for and support an independent investigation into these shootings. Internal reviews by DHS are not sufficient when Americans are being killed and public trust is collapsing. The investigation must be transparent, outside the chain of command of DHS, and publicly reported. 2. Oppose further Department of Homeland Security funding unless it includes real, enforceable reforms to how ICE and CBP operate — especially restrictions on the use of force, mandatory de-escalation protocols, civilian oversight, and accountability measures that go beyond internal disciplinary processes. 3. Reassert Congressional authority over the executive branch. These shootings highlight how much power has been delegated to executive agencies with limited oversight. Congress must insist on restoring its constitutional role and ensure that federal law enforcement agencies operate within legal and ethical bounds. I’m not asking for rhetoric — I’m asking for action that protects Americans and preserves fundamental rights. You’ve heard from constituents, advocacy groups, and bipartisan voices calling for these steps. Now you have the opportunity to act.
