Restore funding to NWS and NOAA

To: Rep. Veasey, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

May 17

I am writing to urge you to support full and sustained funding for the National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). These agencies play an indispensable role in protecting lives, property, and our economy through accurate forecasting, early warning systems, and critical climate and environmental research. In an era of increasingly frequent and severe weather events—ranging from hurricanes and tornadoes to floods, wildfires, and extreme heat—our communities rely more than ever on timely and precise information from NOAA and the NWS. Their services are essential not just for public safety, but also for sectors like agriculture, transportation, emergency management, and energy. Any cuts or stagnation in funding would severely compromise these agencies' ability to operate modern forecasting systems, maintain vital weather infrastructure, and retain expert scientists and meteorologists. Investing in NOAA and the NWS is a direct investment in national resilience and preparedness. Please take a strong stand in support of full funding for NOAA and the NWS in the upcoming budget. The stakes are too high to risk compromising the capabilities of these essential agencies.
