Rein in Musk's power grab, restore democratic oversight

To: Sen. Moran, Rep. Schmidt, Sen. Marshall

From: A constituent in Kansas City, KS

February 9

Elon Musk's unilateral actions in dismantling key federal agencies and undermining the authority of career civil servants pose a grave threat to our democratic institutions and system of checks and balances. His Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) appears to be operating outside of any legal framework, yet wields immense power to cripple agencies like USAID that provide vital services and aid globally. This consolidation of power in the hands of a private citizen is unprecedented and deeply concerning. I urge you to take immediate action to rein in Musk's overreach and restore the proper functioning of the federal government. Shuttering agencies like USAID without due process is causing severe disruptions that will have far-reaching humanitarian consequences. Giving an unelected billionaire free rein to gut the civil service and override agency leadership is an affront to democratic principles. Musk's actions undermine Congress' constitutional authority over federal spending and operations. While increasing efficiency in government is a worthy goal, allowing one individual to unilaterally reshape the entire federal bureaucracy without oversight is reckless and dangerous. I implore you to take decisive steps to curtail Musk's power grab and reassert Congress' statutory role in overseeing the executive branch. Unchecked, his crusade threatens to permanently cripple the government's ability to serve the American people. Swift action is needed to restore accountability and uphold the rule of law.
