Andrew Clyde's use of his time as Speaker pro tempore this week to misgender Delaware Representative Sarah McBride as he called on her to recognize women from her state. Is a flagrant display of disrespect for McBride and a broader attack on trans people everywhere. It contributes nothing to our understanding of gender or of trans people and deepens the political divides that are tearing our country apart. Attacks like this by so called representatives and "leaders" contribute to the lack of safety experienced by so many trans people around the world. I hope you can find some time to call out his contemptuous behavior, to let him know that it is ill-informed, destructive to our democracy, and an affront to the dignity of the House – in short, it is un-American.
