Re-evaluate harmful provisions risking vulnerable citizens' wellbeing

To: Sen. Kennedy, Sen. Cassidy, Rep. Carter

From: A verified voter in New Orleans, LA

July 2, 2025

You betrayed the citizens of Louisiana by approving this terrible piece of legislation. This legislation contains provisions that will significantly impact many Americans in troubling ways. The cuts to Medicaid, food stamps, and other safety net programs risk leaving millions without access to essential healthcare and nutrition, disproportionately impacting vulnerable populations including children. Likewise, reducing support for higher education could limit opportunities for students. At the same time, the large tax cuts predominantly benefit higher-income individuals and corporations, widening economic inequality. And the massive deficit increase is concerning for long-term fiscal stability. While some aspects like the child tax credit increase provide relief, the overall consequences raise serious ethical issues about protecting the well-being of all citizens. I urge you to carefully re-evaluate the ramifications and consider revisions to better uphold principles of compassion, equity, and responsible governance for the people you represent.
