I know you want an America that works for all Americans. There are many areas that require your attention to make that happen. Healthcare that works for all of us, a minimum wage that is livable, secular public education that is available to all, an HHS and CDC and FDA and EPA that are really working to protect our health, environment and discover new ways and treatments to cure disease. It’s a tall order but there there is one more area that requires your attention and that is the U.S. Supreme Court. We have a U.S. Supreme court that is not bound by ethics. They swore under oath to Congress that Roe v Wade was settled law and then overturned it subjugating about half the women in this country. That court dismantled the Affordable Care Act by removing the mandate and allowing high deductible catastrophic plans. Meanwhile, Congress removed tax subsidies that made even those weak health insurance plans affordable sending more millions out without insurance. That includes children. There are justices on the US Supreme Court that have taken lavish gifts, in the millions of dollars, from people who brought cases before them. They did not recuse themselves. Here is what I want you to do. Implement real ethics on the Supreme Court. Ethics with consequences, just as every other federal judge must abide by. If you cant follow the rules, you’re out. Note you can withhold all funding from the court to achieve this. Nothing in the constitution says you have to give them dollar one. We have 94 federal districts and 12 federal circuits and each circuit is to be managed by a Supreme Court Justice - but we only have 9 of those. We need a court that is larger to do the job that needs to be done. We need at least 12 justices - but of course an odd number is required so at least 13. Note that the 9th circuit court has 29 judges and they do just fine. Think big. With a large number of justices that follow ethical rules and are unbiased - we can again have a shot at justice. Think of all the things we need to repair, minimum wage, universal healthcare, restoring education, restoring medical research, restoring environmental protection and food and drug protections. It’s a long list and you’ll have a lot of work to do - but none of it will matter if we have a Supreme Court that is ethically unable to hear cases fairly and evenly. Fix the court.
