Clear Air Act Vote
To: Sen. Slotkin
From: A constituent in Grand Rapids, MI
May 23, 2025
Dear Senator Slotkin,
I’m writing to express my deep disappointment in your recent vote on California’s clean air act waiver. It’s not the vote alone, but the pattern it reflects—a continued lack of values-based leadership and a concerning tendency to seek validation from an imagined political center that no longer exists.
I was once a regular contributor to your campaign. I believed you might represent a future-oriented voice in a state that needs bold leadership. But I’ve since canceled my contributions and actively discourage others from supporting you. Why? Because I no longer believe you are representing Michigan’s long-term interests—or any coherent political vision at all.
Ezra Klein’s Abundance reminds us that great policy begins with a belief in what is possible, not a fear of what is politically palatable. Your approach suggests a scarcity mindset—one that hedges, triangulates, and looks backward for cues. That’s not the leadership we need.
We need representatives who are not playing defense in a culture war, but building a proactive vision for abundance—for cleaner air, sustainable industry, and a politics rooted in courage, not calculation.
Please reconsider what you’re offering to those of us who once believed in you.
Sincerely,
