I’m embarrassed to live in a state where lawmakers just voted to ban student clubs focused on LGBTQ+ identity. I’m ashamed of those who supported this cruelty disguised as governance. Senate Bill 12 isn’t about parental rights, it’s about silencing queer kids.
If you’re going to eliminate clubs for LGBTQ+ students, then shut them all down, every student group, every extracurricular. Because targeting only these clubs is blatant discrimination, plain and simple. According to The Trevor Project, LGBTQ+ youth who have affirming school environments are 45% less likely to attempt suicide. Removing these safe spaces isn’t just wrong, it’s dangerous.
You’ve sent a message to kids across Texas that they don’t belong, that who they are is a problem. That message leads to depression, bullying, and death. And for what? To score political points?
This isn’t leadership. It’s cowardice. Reverse this ban. Reinstate all student clubs. If you won’t stand up for every child in Texas, then you have no business representing us.
