The violence inflicted on civilians in Gaza has been immense, with over 41,000 Palestinian deaths and nearly 95,000 injuries, mostly among women, children and the elderly. Much of this devastation has tragically occurred through the use of U.S.-provided military equipment. Approving further arms sales worth over $20 billion to Israel would violate U.S. law and international humanitarian law by enabling the continued killing of innocent people. There is an urgent need to uphold human rights, cease complicity in this conflict, and pursue a just resolution that protects all civilians. Blocking these arms sales through the proposed Joint Resolutions of Disapproval would be a critical step towards deescalating violence, saving lives, and paving the way for a lasting ceasefire deal that secures the release of hostages. Acting now upholds America's commitment to human rights while creating an opportunity to reassert U.S. leadership in pursuing a sustainable peace.
